Walter Kohn

Walter Kohn was a renowned Austrian-American theoretical physicist and theoretical chemist. Born in 1923, he made significant contributions to the field of physics, particularly in the understanding of electronic properties of materials. Although often associated with astronomy, his work primarily focused on the theoretical aspects of physics and chemistry. Kohn's pioneering efforts led to the development of groundbreaking theories that transformed the understanding of complex systems.

Kohn's most notable achievement was the development of density functional theory, a computational method that enabled the calculation of quantum mechanical electronic structure using equations involving electronic density.
