Sandra Kochmann

Sandra Kochmann is a trailblazing figure in Brazilian Judaism, notable for being the country's first female rabbi. Born in Paraguay, she pursued her rabbinical studies at the Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano, a Conservative rabbinical school, and was ordained in 2000. This milestone marked the beginning of her journey as a spiritual leader, paving the way for future generations of women in the rabbinate.

Kochmann's career has been marked by several notable achievements. In 2003, she began serving as an assistant rabbi at the Associação Religiosa Israelita in Rio de Janeiro, the largest synagogue in the city. Her reputation as a skilled rabbi soon led to her being invited to the bimah at the Congregação Israelita Paulista, Brazil's largest synagogue, in 2004. She later relocated to Israel in 2005, where she coordinated the Kehillah "Masortit Mishpachtit beBeit HaKerem" in Jerusalem. In 2008, she took on a new role as Masorti Olami's coordinator for weddings and giyur, further solidifying her position as a respected leader in the Jewish community.
