Alvin Curran is a renowned American musician and composer, born in Providence, Rhode Island. His diverse career spans multiple roles, including composer, performer, improviser, sound artist, and writer. Curran's work is characterized by its innovative use of electronics and environmental found sounds, showcasing his unique approach to music composition. As a key figure in the development of experimental music, he co-founded Musica Elettronica Viva alongside Frederic Rzewski and Richard Teitelbaum.

Curran's academic background includes studies under the guidance of esteemed composer Elliott Carter. He has also shared his knowledge and expertise as a professor of music at Mills College in California until 2006.
