Efim Geller was a prominent Soviet chess player who achieved the distinction of becoming a world-class grandmaster. Born in 1925, he demonstrated exceptional skill in the game, earning numerous accolades throughout his career. His notable achievements include winning the prestigious Soviet Championship on two occasions, showcasing his mastery of the game at the national level.

Geller's impressive record extends to his performances in other championships, where he claimed four Ukrainian SSR Championship titles. He also had a successful run in the World Seniors' Championship, initially sharing the top spot in 1991 before emerging as the outright winner in 1992. Additionally, he was a strong contender for the World Championship, earning the title of Candidate on six occasions.
