Claude Lanzmann
francia dokumentumfilm-rendező
Claude Lanzmann was a French documentary filmmaker born in 1925, whose work primarily focused on historical subjects. His most notable achievement is the documentary film Shoah, released in 1985, which explores the Holocaust through extensive oral testimony from survivors, witnesses, and perpetrators. The film's unique approach features contemporary footage, eschewing historical recordings, and spans nine and a half hours in duration.
Lanzmann's filmmaking career also included other notable projects, such as the 2017 documentary Napalm. This film is a personal account of a love affair he had with a North Korean nurse during a visit to North Korea in 1958, a period of time following the Korean War. Through his documentaries, Lanzmann demonstrated a commitment to exploring significant historical events and personal experiences, leaving a lasting impact on the field of documentary filmmaking until his passing in 2018.
