Abba Kovner
lengyel-izraeli költő, író, antináci partizánvezér
Abba Kovner was a prominent figure in both literature and resistance during World War II. Born in 1918, he would go on to become a key leader among Jewish partisans, playing a crucial role in the fight against the Holocaust. In 1942, Kovner authored a manifesto in the Vilna Ghetto, a document of profound significance as it marked the first instance where a target of the Holocaust explicitly identified the German plan for the systematic murder of all Jews.
Following his attempt to organize an uprising in the ghetto, which ultimately failed, Kovner escaped into the forest where he joined forces with Soviet partisans. This alliance enabled him to survive the war. After the war, Kovner transitioned into a career as a poet and writer, eventually becoming an esteemed figure in Israeli literature. His life's work spanned from courageous resistance to thoughtful creativity, leaving a lasting legacy until his passing in 1987.
